Wings. Textured Sweater Pattern.
Wings sweater is live on Ravelry! This project started with Jesse's email (from Knit One Crochet Too) - they have just launched their brand new yarn line - Daisy -and wanted me to try it out and create a design with it. In 80% cases I design from the yarn - the ideas start to form in my head when I have this tactile and visual experience with a skein in my hands.Daisy didn't disappoint. After the first swatch, I knew the sweater had to be simple, casual, but also true to my passion - knit texture. Seemingly simple design took several months to take shape in a wearable garment and instructions on the paper. I was looking for that perfect balance of the textured section and the stockinette - in my head it had to flow naturally along the yoke, the textured part couldn't be too wide or too narrow, otherwise it broke the sweater into unattractive blocks that didn't look coherent. Many swatches and ripping off later, I think I managed to catch this balance of the gradient twisted rip pattern flowing along the raglan line that follows your shoulder and then pours into the side seam gradually disappearing as you approach the hem.As you can see the rest of the sweater is a simple stockinette stitch. In my version I made the sleeves slightly longer - they fall all the way to my fingers, but this is just the way I love to wear my sweaters - you can stop at any point you want, the top down construction allows to adjust it without any problem. I also love roll the sleeves up for a more casual and relaxed look.I also want to emphasize the importance of blocking - you just have to give Daisy fabric a quick batch, believe me, it is worth all the effort - the fabric smooths out and opens up in such a beautiful way.One thing that I want to mention is the instructions for the yoke. I can assure you won't find scary "at the same time" phrase, I love to break things down in details - the yoke instructions are written individually for each size, round by round with the notes on the twisted rib transition and stitch counts. You will have all the information in one place, all you have to do is trust the pattern and follow along. As a knitter, I find this very convenient and I hope you will too.Test Knitting. When I sent this photo to Oriana and Theresa with the request to test Wings, I received such a kind response and they were absolutely amazing - sending me little notes and recommendations, so we could all, including my amazing tech editor, make sure that knitters will have a smooth ride knitting from this pattern. The way Theresa sees the knitwear makes my heart sing! Theresa made her Wings in Daisy's Silver shade - just look how airy and magical it looks... And again, the drape - just perfect!Oriana's Instagram is one of my favorite places to visit - her knitting and travel diaries are mesmerizing. Knit in Royal Blue, Oriana's Wings feature slightly cropped shape and 3/4 sleeves - the top down construction will allow you to make the length adjustments to your taste.
