The Gift of Knitting - Mineral Heather Sweater

Happy Sunday, dear crafters! I am sorry for such a late post, it's been a slow lazy Sunday morning... My another gift of knitting for myself. I am warning you - I am turning into a shameless selfish knitter. Though each piece of knitwear that I finish, no matter for whom I am making it, is always a gift for myself - I am so happy to be involved in the process of creating with fiber that the resulting FO is more like a pleasant side effect rather than my initial goal. I bet you know what I am talking about...

But Mineral Heather started from the other end, it was not all about the process, but also about the final product - my goal was to make a nice comfy and WARM sweater. I must admit, I know it's embarrassing, but I am FREEZING here. The mountain climate is so confusing... Days are sunny and warm, but as soon as the sun goes down, I start shaking :) Everybody is making fun of me: "You are from Russia. You are supposed to be adjusted to any cold". No, I am not adjusted to cold. At all. I put layers of clothes, I drink gallons of hot tea and take burning hot showers.

Anyway, the sweater is worn everyday. I am very pleased with the fit - it's not too clingy or too loose. I definitely become more aware of the ease and how to work with it. I also started to love mattress stitch, I always liked the result, but the process was so boring. And now I truly enjoy it - funny how the perspective changes everything. The side seam is almost invisible.Cozy warm long sleeves... My favorite part! If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw how comfy they are!! Definitely worth extra rows of knitting! One more thing that I absolutely loved about this project is yarn color. It looked pretty in the skeins, but it really opened up and bloomed only when the fabric started growing. The speckles of blue and purple are mesmerizing...I made some mistakes in the neckline shaping and was too lazy to rip it off, but the proper finishing hides all the imperfections! I hope to find some time soon to put together a step by step tutorial on how I pick stitches for the neckline using slipped stitches. I managed to hide a huge hole and a miscalculated bind off on one side of the neckline. Please, tell me if you can see the "off" spot!Well, one more knitting story is over... And as always I feel a little bit sad to let it go. But there are new exciting stories coming that I can't wait to share with you! Thank you for being such encouraging readers!
