Modification Series. St. Brigid. Part IV.

Knitting cable cardigan

Do you still remember this project? It was interrupted by several works along its way, but I was still making some progress. Looking at my Ravelry project page, I was shocked to find out that I started it in January - it's the fourth month in progress! I am determined to finish it in April, as it's the last month of Stash Down KAL/CAL. A grey cable cardigan is not the best summer FO, but I don't want to put it aside. I will finish it and it will wait for me until winter.

So, far all the modifications are working out as planned. As you can see I decided to made the body seamless. I really wanted to place the main cable panel without background stockinette stitch on the back after dividing for armholes. I managed to do it, but now it might be a little bit too small. Nothing tragic, can be fixed it with proper blocking.

The cardigan is planned to be modified drop-shoulder, so I omitted the cap shaping in sleeves.

Now I faced a problem I was always scared of - seems like I am running out of yarn! And I still need to add the bands, which were planned to be 10 cm of width, and a crochet trimming on hems and sleeves. To buy the same yarn is impossible right now, as the yarn store I got it from is approximately 2 hour flight away :) So, after rummaging in my stash, I found this - a light grey cotton of the same weight.

I hope to "mix" it up with the dark one for the gradient effect. I am knitting with two strands, so it shouldn't be a problem. Well, I hope the dark Oxford Gris shade will be enough for at least 2 rows of bands before I gradually switch to light Gris Roca. If not, I have no idea. I'll figure something out.

All modifications of my knitting or crochet projects are mostly made intuitively. But this book that came in mail last week is clearing out a lot of things that I didn't even think about before! I am sure most of you have it in your knitting library, if not I highly recommend it!
