Fiber Fusion
Yarn photo diaries are one of my favorite entries in this blog. This is a moment for me to introduce you to the initial stages of a new design and just share images that will, hopefully, inspire you to pick up your skeins and turn them into something that will make you happy.
I do love the fiber contrast in knitwear - you can see it in my Polar Bear sweater (the coziest thing ever).
This time I decided to go further and mix two different fibers in one thread.
One of the yarns is a blend of baby camel, cashmere and silk. It is one of the most luxurious yarns I have ever worked with - it was a gift of a friend and I’ve been holding to it for at least 3 years, before finally finding the idea that will do this treasure justice.
You can find my article on this and other skeins I got here - Magliamania. Precious Fibers.
The second yarn in this fiber mix is a Mexican blend of cotton, linen and silk.
This yarn is a great combination of smoothness and sturdiness.
Together they create the perfect tactile and visual harmony. As you know I always add the element of texture to my designs and this one will be full of textured details, so I felt that baby camel/silk/cashmere blend is great for softness and creates amazing drape, but it would not be ideal yarn for the textured sweater, plus the thread is too thin. So I thought “marrying“ it with the plant base will add sturdiness, crisp stitch definition and a shade of different color. The experiment, as the samples showed, worked out perfectly.
I hope you will have a wonderful week!
